One More Light
Music is
said to be the purest and the most paramount form of human expression. It is an
art which is a symphonic mesh of rhythm, melody and color. Music connects
people at an ethereal level and it has the magic to fill the crater in our
souls. Without music life will be an abyssal void leaving each and every one of
us in an utter disarray. The emotional capacity of music can be divided in at
least 13 overarching sects: amusement, joy, eroticism, beauty, relaxation,
sadness, dreaminess, triumph, anxiety, scariness, annoyance, defiance and
feeling pumped up. The music industries all around the world work assiduously
to weave these creative endeavors into existence and among them one beacon of
light shines the brightest and that beacon is Linkin Park.
v Genre: Linkin Park was originally a
Nu-Metal band or alternative rock band but this didn’t stop them from making
creative dives into other genres of music. Their band music is a combination of
rock, electronica, rap, hip hop, funk and grunge. From the Earth- shattering
heavy metals to the ever so calm acoustic music Chester Charles Bennington, the
lead singer of Linkin Park is often regarded as a singer who can sing like an
angel and scream like a demon.

v Premise
of their music: Before
delving into the premise of their music let us go through the tragic life of
Chester Bennington. Chester’s early life was far from an ideal one. At just the
age of 7 he was sexually abused and was constantly bullied for the way he looked.
Things took even a grimmer turn when his parents were divorced at the age of 11
and in order to numb out the pain he started abusing alcohol, marihuana and
opium. The lead singer had a close and intimate relationship with depression,
suicidal thoughts, alienation, cruelty and suffering and facing his inner
demons and hence the music this legendary songwriter and the band makes is a love
letter to those who are plagued by these nightmarish thoughts and a way to help
people endure the faceless enemies they face and the silent fights they fight
every day. Their music was always a golden ray of hope in the darkest of places
enclosed within our minds and psyche and thus creating a calm and soothing
comfort zone within the listener’s minds.

v Tragic
ending and the aftermath:
On July 20th of 2017, tragedy struck when the long-time lead
vocalist of Linkin Park committed suicide by hanging in his home in Palos
Verdes Estates, California shocking fans all around the world. How can one
person’s music save so many lives but cannot save that person’s life and
suddenly ‘Why is everything so heavy’ hits harder. His long-time friend and
co-vocalist of Linkin Park Mike Shinoda in response released an album called ‘Post Traumatic’ on June 15th of 2018 coping with the loss of his
beloved friend as the name suggests. In 2022, after a long hiatus of the band
Mike Shinoda confirmed that nothing new was in production in terms of the band
however on 10th February,2023 Linkin Park revived a song from their
archive from the Meteora era called ‘Lost’ which is
one of the many songs they plan to revive and publish this year calling the
album ‘Lost’ as in lost music. Furthermore, Mike Shinoda also published a song
called ‘In my head’ with Kailee Morgue recently which is the promotional song of scream VI starring Jenna Ortega as the lead who is also the lead of
the famous TV series ‘Wednesday’.
In conclusion, as a long time and loyal fan of Linkin Park this article was written to honor the late Chester Charles Bennington and the band as their music has also saved me during a very dark and wretched time of my life as Chester said in his song ‘One More Light’ that ‘Who cares if one more light goes out?’ and to that I say ‘Well, I do.’
